    Hello,

I have a big problem with a big interior scene (180mb rhino file). Once I set up normal settings for the final rendering (IR -3-1 + LC-1200 subd and res 1600x..) vray crashes and closes rhino. All of the geometry is correct, any bad object, and just a few surfaces (the rest are solids with volumes), any duplicate or overlapping surfaces.. The crash appear before starting to calculate the LC pass.

I sent a report to vray for rhino posting there my telephone number and once I submit it I have not become a confirmation that my info was sent.

Here is attached print screen of this horrible crash: http://file.bg/f10469DNGCS

    Thank you for helping me

What's the RAM usage during the crash? (task manager -> Rhino EXE)

At the tutorial section you find a thread for avoiding RAM crashes.

      Re: crash

      Hi Micha,

I have the feeling that the problem is related to the memory, or the connection to the server where are all my textures, materials and the rhino file..
Opened empty rhino consumes 99 mb of ram; 736 mb of ram takes the opened problematic scene (which size is 180 mb)
In my opinion the LC is the faster engine but is very sensitive..

I still cannot find the thread for avoiding ram crashes you talk about, is it the one where you explain converting all nurbs to mesh geometry?
      thank you again

          Yes.

What is the highest RAM usage you in the moment of crash? At my XP64 8GB machine it is ~3.6GB, at a 32bit OS it could be 1.6GB.

            Re: crash

            Hi,

I set up the 3GB switch and the crashes stopped. My OS is XPSP3 (32 bit), and after the change Rhino uses 2Gb of memory (in the task manager) and the ram on my pc is 4gb..
I also increase the Initial size of the Virtual memory from 2 to 3gb.. (my pc, rmb, system properties, Performance options, advanced, initial size..)
I would like to install XP 46 bits, but for that I need to ask again simply rhino to ask for another activation of my vray...

            Thanks again Micha

I'm not sure, but I think your VfR is activated to the hardware and not to the OS. Maybe Damien know more.

                thank you Micha..
everything works fine now. I will also try to convert all the nurbs to meshes
