Wish: more bug fix releases

Hi,

today I run in a bug, that I reported three months befor and I ask me, couldn't be possible to get bug fixes quite often? My clients are not interested to know, that a new release will come in the next months and bug fixes are not planed for the near future, they want to get nice renderings now. :-\

At the moment my client like to get a clean white arch viz with outlines and detailed trees, but ... reported at December 2008. The tree is without outline material, but outline artefacts are visible around the trees.

Also maybe it could possible to release the last released VfR with the latest Vray every few months, so that the user can profit by core bug fixes and improvements quite often. Maybe it's not so much work to compile the plugin again.

In place of a long answer, here's a shorter one. Your request is noted, but its not going to change in the near future. Right now we're working on improvements for the next full version. Bug fixes will be part of those improvements, but doing an "in between" release at this point is not much of an option.

In the longer term though, this will likely be more of what we're going to. Over the years, we've done a lot with service releases (in fact all improvements/additions up to this point have been wrapped up in service releases). Although this is nice, it also causes a lot more issues, one of which is the time taken to get bug fixes out there. Hopefully, after the next full version is out, we'll have shorter, more frequent point releases that are more bug fix focused with service releases that will have a few extra features released intermittently

I know it from big projects - at the end I thought often, if I would start again, than I would do some things other. So I can hope that the v2 release will bring some basic improvements on the code side that cause more frequent bug fix releases. For now every bug a exercise for patience - rendern for enlightenment.

When we started out, things were much different than they are now. Over the last few months Joe and the guys have been doing a lot of work going back and rethinking the way we've structured our plugin. It may not really produce something visual for you guys, but for the development team its a completely new ball game. Its going to be so much more easy them to manage changes, add features, and make bug fixes. Not only that but its making some other opportunities available for us which we're all excited about here in the office <cough>VfR/SU on a Mac</cough>. Although the benefits may not be incredibly evident at the moment, you'll all see the difference a few months down the road.
