Rhino 4.0 wont extrude..........HELP!!!

I have Rhino 4.0 and have Vray running also.

When I go to extrude a line or object it extrudes ok, but I then cannot select the object I have just extruded... Its as if its locked or something and the cursor wont select it...

Further to this, if I save what I have just extruded then close the file and then re-open it.... It then sometimes lets me select the object that I previously could not.

I am running VISTA, which I know has its issues but i was wondering if anyone else has had this issue or whether its a setting that I dont know about....
