  • Drawing imported from AutoCAD renders weird with Vray

    Hello,

I imported a site plan from autoCAD (saved as 2007 version, Rhino wouldn't accept my 2010 drawing file).

When I extrude shapes from my curves and render them, they have chunks and black triangles all over.

I drew a box directly in rhino to contrast that it doesn't happen with shapes the originate in Rhino.

Is there something I need to do with my drawing first before I can extrude it?

    Thanks,

    S

Hi I have the same problem!,

I posted somthing similar a few months back however got no reply..

Have you fixed it, if so how??
I have the problem only on one particular AutoCAD file, other projects have been fine. I export as CAD 2000 format files, import to rhino 4 or 5, and model, in the past 10 years of using rhino and importing various documents from AutoCAD, this is the first time I have come across such an issue.

It even comes out all wierd in 3D studio MAX,
to over come it you have to re drew the whole drawing in Rhino! but this cant be..my CAD document is to big to re draw, and time consuming...
any help would be greatly appreciated..

here is my original post way back in November with the same problem.

By the way have you noticed it renders perfectly ok in Rhino Render. But not in Mental ray or Vray.

Also do your surfaces within the Viewport appear disjointed particulary when you extrude and solid circle from the AutoCAD line.

          Hey

I have found out the solution to the problem..

Is it possible that the model with problems is far far far away from the coordinates origin?

If so, move it near to 0,0 and the problem should be solved.

Let me know if this doesnt solve the problem.

          Cheers
