  • Latest VRay will not load after install - Dependent DLL missing

    Hi there,

After several months of installs and VRay use without a problem, I downloaded the latest June build to install in our lab.

After several hours of updating all of the RH5 and Vray licenses, as well as the new RDK download, I get the error that VRay cannot load when I start rhino (64bit).

I really cannot waste any more time on this, and the students have deadlines this week. Can someone give a solution?

(ps. I did find other forum posts about this issue, but since we have had it wroking flawlessley till now, and those posts are for much older versions, this problem seems to be a new (old) one ...)

    Thanks in advance!

Check the permissions on the C:\ProgramData\ASGVIS directory. We had similar symptoms after deploying a recent Rhino 5 upgrade .msi via Group Policy -- V-Ray would no longer load -- and, in poking around, noticed that there were no write permissions for "Users" on this directory. When we allowed "Users" modify permissions through this tree V-Ray would load again. We didn't pursue isolating which file it actually needed to write. It might not be the problem you're having -- we didn't see anything about a missing .dll -- but the symptoms sound similar and occurred during this same kind of updating process. We're looking at a slightly different problem now where we uninstalled/re-installed a previous Rhino 5 June beta and now Rhino doesn't think the .Net 4 framework is installed, this even after downloading it from Microsoft and re-installing it.
