  • Dirt shader for round bumped edges - double sided doesn't work.

    Hi,

I tried to get round edges per dirt shader at the bump option, but I can get the effect for concave or convex edges only (dependent from the invert normal option), not for both at the same time. Should it not be possible to get a dirt effect at outer and inner edges if double sided is enabled?

    Ciao,
    Micha

You can not use the Dirt as bump or displacement, because V-Ray dirt need ray tracing. I haven't try this, but you can try by use it in the diffuse layer as a texture, then use the new Bake rhino 5 command to bake the texture and then use the texture as bump.

Sounds very interesting - I can bake a Vray effect to a texture? Could you explain, how it can be done.

        Hi Micha
As I said I had not tried this before, I did a test last night and didn't work. I know this work in 3ds Max, but not is Rhino. I thought that maybe the bake command in Rhino could bake the Dirt mapping if you have it in the diffuse layer. Then you could use the bake texture as a bump or displacement. I guess we will have to wait until we add the V-Ray distance Texture feature in V-Ray for Rhino.

I suppose so baking need a lot more programming work and can be done from the Chaosgroup side only. Thank you for the link - nice feature.
