  • Frame Buffer Window Freeze

    Hi,

Issue I'm having is this - I'll render as normal, and attempt to click on any of the buttons in the frame buffer window (save, delete image, follow mouse, region render etc) and the focus of the window is gone. By this I mean interacting with anything in the window is not possible, but the image continues to render. If I use the middle mouse button to pan around the rendering image, same result. Further to this, NOTHING in the Windows environment can subsequently be clicked, but the machine isn't frozen as such (mouse still moves but nothing clickable). I can ALT-TAB to another application, but again I cannot click on anything. I need to hit CTRL-ALT-DEL to break the freeze (which interestingly then rapidly executes all the actions I've done during the freeze), hit ESC and all is good again. It's very frustrating.

The only thing that doesn't trigger the freeze is to use the scroll wheel to zoom in and out, or click on the VFB channels drop down in the upper left corner.

Interaction with the rest of Rhino while rendering is fine, the problem only occurs with the frame buffer window and also occurs after rendering is complete.

I've been having this issue since Rhino 5 Beta and would appreciate it if a fix is finally provided.

    Sorry, I've mentioned this before!

I'm hoping this can be chased up still though.

      Hi
This is a known issue that we have not been able to track. Seem to be related to other software. In some case to Photo Shop, in other cases to camtasia, Tablet drivers, etc. We will keep working to see if we can track and fix this issue.

        Hi Fernando,

Any luck with this issue, as this is really making the package unusable and is happening on multiple machines.
        Cheers

I fight with this nightmare every day. I have Adobe CC + wacom intous tablet. The freeze appears when click on any button on the VFB... but not always. I rather think this is caused by the graphic card, as on my last PC I had the same tablet, Adobe CS5 and different graphic card. Will report you the model tomorrow..

ctrl+alt+del, followed by ESC button is my solution for now

actually at home on my laptop I have the same copy of software and same wacom tablet but no problems at all !!
In my opinion should be graphic card or network issue.

            - - - GeForce GTX 650 is the graphic card I use at work.

I'm inclined to think that it is some other software interfering with the focus of the vfb window and not video card.

At Gemvision we are still seeing Freezing with V-Ray 2.0 from many customers. I am hoping that you guys get this under control. It's been around since 1.5 and needs to go away.

freezing is also still a problem for the material editor window. occasionally it will just lock out but stay open. although rhino is still running and it's possible to execute commands, closing rhino is the only way to make the window go away. this has also been a problem since 1.50

Same here - the material editor would all grey out. Sometimes it returns to a usable state, other times as you say Rhino needs to be shut down and started up again.

I've had this happen with the vray options window as well on occasion.

Sounds like you have the known license time out problem that can be solved ... huhaaa the forum search show me all results of all software packages. There was an answer for that problem but I can't find it.

                          this? http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthr...icense+timeout

That might be a fix. But it's still rather clumsy. Is it not enough that I'm in the middle of modelling/rendering, that I need to 'wake' it up? Most people would see it as a bug, and the plug-in freezing for whatever reason.

Wait, this is a feature??? this is madness. I am unable to "wake" my vray without closing and restarting rhino when this happens. Thanks Micha, I'll try it and see if it helps. It does sound like the problem.

would it be possible for the default to be set to no timeout, and then let those power users who need this feature enable it? I work in an environment with dozens of machines that would need to have their ini files adjusted three times a year.

Yes, my favorite feature of this forum is how hard it is to only search in the rhino sub forum.
