  • Lights in blocks don't work

    Hi,

If a Rhino block contains a light and I insert the block in a scene, the light won't work in the render.

Yeah, this could be a great features.
This way you can create light lamp with correct ies lighting and copy it many times.
The problem comes if you want to change the properties. You have to "open" the block and change the properties. When you close the block all the instance updates.

We do not support lights on block, however you can group lights and change the values at the same time.

Yes but groups don't offer the file management benefits of blocks.
Let's say I have an airplane that can be fitted with several different rooms and furniture. They can be inserted as blocks, depending on the configuration needed. It would be nice if these would have their own lighting come along when needed.
Right now I have layers for each floorplan and sub-layers for each room and furniture, it works but less convenient.

Right, I agree with you. This will be a great feature and we are taking note of everything. Unfortunately, at this moment it is not possible to have light in components, but we are looking forward to see if we can implement this in a future.
          thanks

From an answer from McNeel in Rhino's forum, it's a limitation in Rhino. It cannot read lights in a block.
