  • How to keep the focus for several saved views (jewelry rendering)?

    Hi,

I do a lot of jewelry rendering with DOF and in the past I used the focus point of the Rhino cam to keep the focus for all the different views. Did I have overseen the option to get the camera target focus working again? I open my project files and the whole rendering is blurry, I can't quick switch to the next view without manual adjust the focus.

    Hello, Micha,

You would need to get focus distance ("Pick Focal Point" button) each time you switch views. This is something the dev team is keen on improving as it is currently a batch render workflow obstruction.

    Kind regards,

Good news, since it's a problem for manual rendered stills too. Set the focus point at at the same point like a few renders before is quite difficult some times, for example at my watch models hidden objects in the background are catched often.

      Thanks,
      Micha

The first time that you open an old scene, we have the focal distance set to 200. So, you will have to re-pick the focal distance for that scene only one time. Then it should be working as in V2

At V2 the focus points of my scene are fine adjusted and defined by the Rhino camera target. It slow down the workflow to find the focus points again and to switch between different camera views for rendering. Please set it on the bug tracker list on the top.

Last I rendered an animation per Octane since it was faster than Vray (a lot of DOF effects and blurry metal). A macro view on a dental implant. The focus point was moving, nice looking effect. I suppose so Vray RT GPU could do the job now too, since the speed seems to be very good, but the removed camera target functionality makes it impossible.

            Hi Micha
We added the ability to do the focal point based on the camera target as in V2. We are exploring the possibility to add auto focus also, but this will take more time.
