  • Grass (fur) - shadow problem

    Hi folks!
I have some trouble with grass using vray fur.
As You can see my grass has something like 'shadow' on the side closer to light emitter.
Material is 'grass_b_200cm' from library - gives nice color variation.

Does some1 know how to fix it? I would love to have something like grass from aerial mode.
    Cheers

I have the same issue, but no solutions.

The only things that help a little bit are making sure the grass isn't a 2S material and turning off reflections.

Hope this can be solved somehow...

This is how Aerial Perspective works by default, the same thing would happen in real world as well.
In order to get the shadows from the Sun you could disable Affect Environment which or you can play a bit with the following parameters:
Click image for larger version Name:	Rhino_2017-10-20_16-00-18.jpg Views:	1 Size:	353.0 KB ID:	971759
As you can see with some adjustments I managed to render Aerial Perspective without losing the shadows completely.

Here is the scene if you would like to play with it: http://ftp.chaosgroup.com/support/sc...ive_shadow.3dm

Turning off bumpmap helps a bit.

          Up!
          This problem is unsolvable.
V-ray is making 'cone grass', when naturally it should be leaves-like.
          and a cone always has a self-shadow.

Is it possible to change from "cone" fur to "single surface" fur?

Although not recommended, you can turn off the "tubular" VRayFur look by disabling Embree:
Asset Editor > Advanced Settings Panel > Raytrace (Advanced) > Optimizatoins > System > Embree.

            Kind regards,
            Peter
