  • Vray proxy problem

    Hello,

I'm not sure if this is a bug or something I'm doing wrong. I have an object composed of many m eshes that I want to transform into a vray proxy to use in a scene. The meshes are not grouped or in a block. Each of the meshes has a material assigned with V-Ray Material Asset Editor. These materials have been converted from Rhino materials. The file was originally imported from a sketchup file. The file was in 2014 skp version and was saved to sketchup 8 version before importing to rhino. When I export the to a vray proxy (replacing the original objects) it works perfect. But if I then import the vrmesh file to the scene I doesn't include any of the original materials.I have tried different ways to assign the materials to the objects but the results are the same.

I can't upload the 3dm file or the vrmesh file, I get an invalid file error...

    Best regards,

I posted the same question on rhino forum. There I was able to upload the 3dm file. Here is the link to that post: https://discourse.mcneel.com/t/vray-...roblem/45559/5
Hello, I downloaded a plants package from food for rhino. It contained many meshes with each proxy besides it. The package also contained jpgs. [image] Problem is that I cant render these into my model. No matter w

save the 3dm with the proxy inside, and load it in your scene as linked block..

Thank you for your suggestion, but it doesn't work. I still can't get the materials to render on the linked block after I insert it on the scene. Another problem is that every time I reopen the scene file an alert pops up with duplicate materials.

          Hi filipejsbrandao,

You can upload files here by zipping them.

          Back to the question:
The .vrmesh file does not save the materials. It only saves IDs based on your material assignments that can later be utilized in a Multi Material.
A good option for you I believe is to export the laptop model as a .vrscene and the use it as a reference file in another project.
The workflow is similar to the Proxy workflow but you don't have to worry about materials.
Another cool thing about this is the vrscene can be exported from other V-Ray enabled applications - 3dsMax, Maya, SketchUp, Revit, ...

Here is a vrscene model that I've exported for testing:
          MacbookPro_aberto.zip

And here's a video recording of my test:

          Hope that helps,
          Konstantin
