  • Rectangular lights in asset editor

    Hi,

I have copied several times a rectangular light and I see only one in the asset editor. It acts like instant copy. How can I get the control of each light back?
    thank you

Yeah I am a little confused about how this instancing is working. I thought the lights had to be grouped to become just one instance in the Asset Manager.

When you create a copy using the Gumball (Alt+Drag) or Array command, this creates a instance of the light which can be controlled from a single light in the V-Ray Asset Editor. There is an option for an instanced light to be separated by selecting it and clicking the 'Make Unique' button in Rhino's Light panel.

Using the traditional copy/paste function creates new light components which can be controlled individually.

If you are using V-Ray Mesh Lights, the behavior with instancing is slightly different. It is necessary to create a block from the V-Ray Mesh Light and only then can it be instanced.

        Thanks Georgi!

E.g. if I want to create a block that is a light fixture with a v-ray light inside it, I need to use the Mesh Light right? Because the rectangular light won't stay inside the block

maruyama.edson Yes, currently it is not possible to export V-Ray Lights as part of a Block component, except for the Mesh Light

The Rhino property panel also has a "make unique" button that breaks the "instanced" light allowing you to control it individually.
