  • How to use VfR3x or higher if the internet connection is temporary disabled?

    Hi,

some times I have temporary internet connection problems, but I would like to work on my machine. What can I do? Do I need to switch to the Dongle system?

I have VfR2 and the dongle running. Could it be possible to use the dongle for VfR2 and for VfR3x+?

    Best regards,
    Micha

You can borrow your licenses for offline use for periods of up to 2 weeks at a time. Renewing the borrowed status requires just a minute of internet connection approximately every 2 weeks.
    For more info, visit https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...or+Offline+Use

    Kind regards,

      Hi Peter,

some times the internet connection is disabled by a failure of the internet provider. So, I don't know when it happens. Could I enable my Dongle for VfR2 and VfR3x+ at the same time?

You can transfer the V-Ray 3 license to the dongle, but since we'll be discontinuing them it'll best if you borrow the license to be used offline and set it to auto-renew. That way you'll be able to work without internet connection for up to 2 weeks with the current license server version and more with the next one that's about to be released - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...or+Offline+Use

The auto-renew feature could be my solution, sounds great.

I have an idea - could it be possible that the auto-renew renew the license every time I have an internet connection. So, a big storm could kill my internet connection every time and I could work 2 weeks without trouble. At the moment it looks like if my internet connection is cut at day 13, than I will work 1 day more only. Is it right?

          Thank you,
          Micha

That will be implemented in the next license server release, should be released soon. We're testing some builds now.

                Micha,

I am so with you on this, and I advocate to allow 4 weeks without connection.

Apart from that, a question for Chaos Group.

How much data is used for the reastablishment of the license on the reconnection?
Is there anything else updated or renewed when doing that reconnection? Can one exclude those other items?
Some people have occassionaly only very costly data connection on hand....

It's a real pain that more and more people live under the false impression that a fast connection is always available at any time (read Satcom).

                Regards,

                Pretty

The requests made by the license server are about 0,2KB in size.

If you have V-Ray Telemetry enabled, your machine would send anonymous usage data once a day. The size of this data over several days can amount approximately to the data you have used to load this forum thread. It can toggled on or off via the Asset Editor's Settings panel (https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...roup+Telemetry).

The minuscule amounts of license data transfers required for the operation of V-Ray do not amount to a substantial you could notice. Furthermore, V-Ray itself does not employ an auto-update service.
In conclusion, speed is never a requirement, even 8kbps would do.

                  Kind regards,
                  Peter
