  • IES Light - Rotation Orientation

IES lights have 3 dimensional shapes. But, I cannot figure out how to verify the orientation or rotation of the IES light. When I rotate the IES light icon, I don't see anything that tells me, "hey, this is the front and this is the back of the light". Am I missing something obvious?

For example, I am placing light poles along a street. I'd like to know my rendering and lighting analysis are accurate according to the orientation of the pole and light fixture to the street as it curves.

    Thanks, Jeff

    Hello, Jeff,
Upon creation, IES lights are initially oriented based on the world XY axes, so if you place the light widget vertically (along Z axes), the light will appear aligned along world X and facing Y.
You make a good point, the viewport widget is not indicative of the light's rotation. I've notified the dev team about this and a ticket has just been logged.

    Kind regards,
    Peter
