  • Attention - no way back if nightly is used and saved

I'm disappointed - I tried the nightly over a day and got some problems, that the rendering doesn't start - "not memory can't be allocated". But there GPU memory was free and the scene working in the past. OK, I deinstalled the nightly, but now the Rhino files saved during the nightly are reset - all material are gone and the setup is reset. So, be careful, this nightly is not upward compatible to the previous version.

Note: if I load my files from yesterday, saved per nightly, than the material are gone from the asset editor. At the object properties the material name is still shown. If the scene is rendered than the materials looks like basic Rhino materials only.

Please note the disclaimer in red font stresses on unexpected behavior of projects saved using nightly builds: https://forums.chaosgroup.com/forum/...lable-20200226

"Note that it's not recommended to use the nightly builds in production.
They are for test purposes only.
Scenes setup with the nightly build might not behave the same way when loaded in the final official build.
    "

Additionally, V-Ray for Rhino is not forward-compatible, meaning projects saved using a newer V-Ray version will not be read correctly when using any previous ones.
If a project is opened using an older V-Ray version than the one it was created with a prompt message will offer wiping all V-Ray data to ensure file stability.

If, by chance, you've saved the only copy of a work project using the stable nightly build you have 2 options:
    1. Wipe all V-Ray data to protect the Rhino scene from corruption while working on it using v4.10.02.
    2. Wait for the official release of V-Ray Next for Rhino, update 2 (v4.20.01) before safely continuing your work.

    Kind regards,
    Peter

      Hi Peter.Chaushev,

I got my scene running at the previous version again.

I didn't expect that VfR isn't forward-compatible, best you add it to the disclaimer. I expect an incompatibility between main versions only like between 3.x and 4.x.

      Thanks,
      Micha
