V-Ray for Rhino add DR hosts by IP

Hi,

While swarm is nice for on-site machines I would very much like the option of adding external hosts by IP in Rhino, even if it means hard coding IPs into a configuration file or preferably scripting it in c# from grasshopper.
Since the release of Swarm I believed the option to be gone but after setting up the AppSDK I realised it's still there (addhosts) and hope there is a way of using this from within Rhino!?

Hello, Joakim,

Swarm communication is limited to the local network. I'm afraid it is not possible to have external machines participate in a production rendering process. Even if SettingsDR's host_list is filled in correctly, it does get reset upon export.
The only way to overcome this is by exporting a vrscene file and launching distributed rendering via V-Ray Standalone.
Be mindful though that one of Swarm's most important features is the management of the V-Ray version used by each render node. Without it, you'd have to do this manually.
