  • Using Batch Render + Cryptomatte

Hello guys, a quick question: how to do a proper batch render with ability to tweak lens effects afterwards and/or with working Cryptomatte?

The only batch render that works correctly seems to be multiple JPGs. With no cryptomatte of course, but at least Material ID works, while Multimatte is currently unavailable.

Multiple PNGs - horrid saving time
EXR - multiple files, not a single one.
VRIMG - the most promising with huge file size, yet screws up Cryptomatte in EXR from the frame buffer, saving to JPG from FB causes horrid JPG compression artifacts which destroys Material ID channel.

    Cheers

    Hello Jonish

Lens Effects are post process effects that need pixel values higher than 1 to work(file types like .vrimg .exr .tiff-32bit etc.)
To be able to save a usable Cryptomatte render element the output must be set to multichannel EXR or .vrimg.
That way the RGB render element and Cryptomatte render element will be saved in a single file and EXR and this would be the best way to go with this task.

To be able to save a multichannel EXR with Batch render you will have to:
    - First enable Save Image (V-Ray Asset Editor > Settings > Render Output)
    - Chose a file output directory (this step is necessary for the image options to appear)
Click image for larger version Name:	Multichan.jpg Views:	1 Size:	55.7 KB ID:	1066843
    - Then below the file output option a new rollout will appear - Image Options
    - In image Options rollout enable Multichanel option
    Save the (Rhino)file
    - Then open the Batch render menu from the dedicated button or V-Ray > V-Ray Rendering > Batch Render…
    - Select the file and views you wish to render
    - Go to settings(lower right corner) and select EXR as a file format
Click image for larger version Name:	BatchRenderOptions.jpg Views:	1 Size:	28.7 KB ID:	1066844
    - Finally press the play button and V-Ray will start the batch render.
Note that the output images will be saved in the directory where the .3dm file is located - you can override this in Batch render setting.
Furthermore note that Cryptomatte works with disabled Progressive option only.

Thank you Slavcho, this looks promising! Cryptomatte is an amazing improvement to my workflow so I'm extremely happy there's a way to get everything, batch render, lens effects and crypto, all at once.
