  • Opacity map in Grasshopper?

Hi there, i'm trying to set up a simple Vray material in grasshopper whereby an alpha image is used to control the transparency of the material. But when I go to plug in the bitmap component to the opacity slot i get the error "Unable to cast object of type".
Has anyone experienced similar issues or is there something i'm missing.

any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

    Hi,

Thank you for reporting this! Unfortunately this is a limitation.

In the current state, Glossiness and Opacity parameters can only read numeric values.
As a workaround, I could propose that you set up the material in Rhino and use the `V-Ray Material from Project` component.

In the meantime, please be informed that our developers will be notified, and as soon as there is any progress, I will post back here

Thanks georgi.georgiev , I have tried that method but i'm actually looking to render out a PNG sequence of the man walking the dog so unfortunately that would only work from grasshopper.
Hopefully this will get fixed soon! Appreciate your help

Not sure exactly what the scenario is but you could use a numbered series of bitmaps (starting from 0) and enable V-Ray's Bitmap texture option Sequence (https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...itmap-Sequence)

Please note that the Playback options are currently not supported
