  • Decal Material

    Hi everyone,

great that the latest V-Ray for Rhino supports the decals now!
But there is still one problem with the material of the decal itsself.
The decal always takes over the material of the geometry its placed on.
For non translucent materials no problem, but how to put a decal on a glass window for example, without using the refraction values of the glass for the decal?
It would be perfect to use an material only for the decal, is that possible?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Simeon

There are a few ways to go about this and a lot of mapping involved!

With the current setup, you would have to add the texture to the Refraction Color parameter so that the space where the Decal is placed is not translucent. Depending on the texture, you might have to disable TileU/V in the Texture Placement rollout of the Bitmap and adjust the Default Color (Color Manipulation rollout) to white so that everything around the texture produces translucency. Example material attached!
