  • Grasshopper - Live Link Component - Export Animation to Vantage?

I assume - because it's not mentioned in the documentation (see link below) - you can't yet export an animation from Grasshopper to Vantage via the Live Link component?

I ask, on the off chance that I've missed something and it is possible, because the 'Export Animation' option in the right click menu is greyed out before clicking 'Start V-Ray Vantage' but is clickable once V-Ray Vantage is running? If it wasn't currently supported then it should remain greyed out right!? Anyway, I've clicked it and let it run but can't see any indication that it's done anything in Vantage...

    Hello, Paul,
Direct animation transfer from Grasshopper to Vantage is not implemented. It is currently a work in progress.
You can still transfer camera or sun animation from Grasshopper to Rhino via the "V-Ray Render in Project" Grasshopper component. From there you can establish live link between V-Ray for Rhino and Vantage and the animation will be transferred.

    Kind regards,
    Peter

One minor detail about camera animation transfer from V-Ray for Grasshopper to V-Ray for Rhino - only the camera position and target parameters are currently transferred which is in line with Rhino's native animation support. Advanced camera parameters will not be passed over to Rhino in this case.

Thanks Peter.Chaushev, I'm aware of the camera limitations when using "Render in Project" as I've posted a question about that previously (link below).
I've been doing a bit of testing with the Vray animation tools in grasshopper and have noticed that when I render still images using the tilt input and "Looking Through Camera" option it works correctly and renders out the desired camera tilt. But when I setup up an animated camera tilt, "Export Camera

            Hi guys,

Actually camera and sun animation can be transferred to Vantage directly from Grasshopper.
You have to do it in the following way:
            1. Setup an animated camera in Grasshopper (make sure the Timeline is connected to the Renderer)
            2. Add a Live Link component and start Vantage
            3. Set the Live Link component port to the Vantage port - by default it is 20701
            4. The connection will be established at this point but no animation is going to be transferred
            5. Disable the Live Link component
Disabling of the component shouldn't have been required - I'll investigate further to find why it is...
            6. Right click on it and choose Export Animation - the animation should appear in Vantage and a playback there will be possible
We currently do not support object animations.

                Hi northsails_ltd ,

There is a new stable build uploaded here - https://nightlies.chaosgroup.com/mai...table/20211112
You can download it and test the Animation Export in the Live Link component.
Disabling the component should no longer be required.

                Thank you in advance,
                Konstantin
