  • Having a light exclude specific geometry > is it possible?

I did the usual searching of the supporting documents (which really need to be finished!) and the searches in the forum and google with no luck.

QUESTION > Can you have a light exclude specific geometry?[LIST][*]Is there a current work-around?[*]If it does not exist, isn't this a GREAT feature to add soon?[*]If you agree, when can we expect it?

No one seems to know. It shall remain a mystery for all eternity. So be it.

      Hello, schultzeworks ,
So far we have insisted on keeping lights behave realistically by illuminating all scene objects.
After discussing this internally today, we will reconsider this stance. We hope to have such functionality included for each light source in the next major update of V-Ray for Rhino.

      Kind regards,
      Peter

Could you please give an illustrated example of what you cannot achieve without this functionality?
Such info may help me in providing you with a viable workaround.

I was looking for this feature in VRay for Rhino for many years because it is possible in 3dsmax. This function comes in handy for controlling light in still renderings where certain surfaces/geometries do not need to receive light. Very useful to control the 'look & feel' and should have been made available long time ago.

I would also really like this feature to be added. When rendering jewelry product and brand images it would be extremely useful to be able to light only certain gemstones / parts of a piece.

I just want to point out that excluding lights from reflections can not be done with the 3ds Max feature mentioned above.
If we want to add that too it'll have to be added to the Wrapper material. In 3ds Max it's part of the object properties.
