  • Scattering objects in geometric patterns

    Hello all,

New to Vray here. Is there a way to use the vray scattering tool to scatter the guest objects in specifice patterns? For example, a crowd of people (guests) standing in a circular distribution around a centerpoint facing the centerpoint. Or a city where the buildings
cluster in the center then radiate outword from the center with diminished scale? I've seen this in Blender's Scatter add ons and geo nodes, not sure we have this?

    Cheers,

    A

    Hi there,
I don't think vray scatter is capable of this complex scattering. If you need advanced scattering in Rhino have a look a Rhino Nature, a plug in that is actually capable of complex scatters but unfortunately not very well serviced so it rarely runs smoothly.

        Hi Reederdzn48@gmail.com,

There is currently no way to be that specific when using Scatter.
There are two things I'd recommend:

        1) Describe your needs in our ideas portal

        2) Use Grasshopper and possibly V-Ray for Grasshopper to achieve this

Thank you Konstantin. I can definitely upload some ideas on the portal. Thank you for the note about Grasshopper-that's a very
smart idea, you have quite a gift!

Here's the definition by the way - crowd_01.zip
Note you have to have the Cosmos Assets downloaded for this to work (and V-Ray 7).
Moving the point will reorient the instances.
Also note that the definition can be simplified (the Orient Direction node I've used for the orientation can also be use for scaling, etc).
I just wanted to give you an idea where to start.
The Render in Project component will give you the ability to render the GH definition as part of the Rhino part of the project...
