  • Physical Environment, prepasses and blur shadows ..

    Hi,

    three questions:

    - Will Vray for Rhino get a skylight system with sun ... in the future?

    - Where can I find infos about the prepasses?
Are prepasses only for a quick preview or realy needed for the GI calculation?
Where can I set number of prepasses?

    - In Rhino, Flamingo and AIR I can set a blur for the shadows of points and spots? Is this planned for Vray to?

The sun/sky system is already coded for V-Ray for 3dsmax, so it's likely that it will be available for rhino at some point too.

The prepasses are a side effect from V-Ray's Irradiance map calculation - this is when the actual GI samples are computed. The fact that they can be used for early previews of the scene is somewhat of a bonus. The number of passes is determined by the Min/Max rate for the irradiance map.

At this time, V-Ray always uses raytraced shadows, and not shadow maps. As such, there is no blur setting. However, you can use rectangle lights if you want the soft-shadow effect.

    Best regards,

      Thank you.

Flamingo and AIR are using soft shadows for raytraced shadows too. I have a test scene here with a room. At the wall are bulb lamps with a white cover. Here a rendering from an other engine. If I had a blury raytraced shadow I could simulate the size of the light. Please set it on the wishlist.

Also I have a problem with the dark tubes at Vray. I get only very dark reflections on it (see my post in the bug section) and the reflectance is at maximum.

Ah, I see, you want to use area shadows with point lights? Yes, this can be added at some point.

        Best regards,
