  • Reconstruction parameters

    Hi,

I am a little confused about the arrangment in Reconstruction parameters of the irradiance map tab. There is a "prefilter" checkbox and then there is an input field. Is that input field relating to the prefilter ? If so, then shouldn't it be greyed out when the checkbox is not ticked ? Is the "Use for glossy rays" also affected to the "pre-filter" chackbox ?

Is the filter-size and Interp-Samples only pertinent when the filter is set to "Fixed"... shouldn't they be greyed out any other time ?

One other thing: In the Image sampler there is a checkbox next to "Normals", if that checkbox is unticked, shouldn't the input field be greyed out ?

You're confusing IR map with lightcache I think.

Do some test with LC for both first and secondary bounces. First test without any filters (no prefilter and normal filter to none). Use low enough subdivs to speed up the tests.

Then test with prefilter, and also with normal filter, you'll see the difference very well.

With IR map in first, and LC in secondary, you will not see the filters effect much. In fact, with this combo, start without any filtering at first, and if you have some strange light leaks etc, simply turn on the two filter with default settings.

There are lots of settings that should be greyed out depending on your choices, now it is very confusing. But all the filter stuff is the least important of the LC rollout.

You are right, I did confuse the two. The reconstruction thingy is under the light cache tab

Yes, this is the part that confuses me every so often.
So, the checkbox named "prefilter" is supposed to gray-out the input field sitting on its righthand side ?

...and the other two numeric inputs correspond to the choices in the drop down menu only ? ... but they should be grayed out except when "Fixed" is chosen. Is that it ?

Yes, pre filter and its number are related.

The use for glossy rays isn't related to prefilter, it is a 'global' lightcache option.

The other 3 in reconstruction are also related. If filter is none, the other two should be greyed out. If filter is nearest, the size should be greyed out. If filter is fixed, the other two should be available. Fixed filter is tricky, and in most cases shouldn't be used.

          Thank you Wouter
Makes more sense now (this was precisely what I needed to know)
