  • Area light brightness is dependent from the size

Maybe it is a feature, but it makes the workflow difficult. I have a scene with area lights in the windows, for example intensity 100. Than I want to set some artificial light in the room with different size but all the same intensity 40. But it dosn't work. Every arealight with a different size need a own value.

here an example - all light with the same intensity value

We're going to add Wattage and Radiance units for the Rect lights so you can assign for example.. 40 watts of power to the light, then regardless of the size it will be the same

Area light brightness is dependent from the size

Hi micha, it is perfectly normal that a small light emits less light than a big one. This is actually a good thing!

Say you have a room with 4 windows, going from small to large. Now you would put 4 area lights in them, according to their window size, instead of using a single skylight. The smallest one would cast less light than the biggest one. This is correct! Because in real life, trough the small window, not much light would go trough! Imagine it would not be that way, then it would look like if the light going trough the small window would be brighter than trough the bigger window, which is totally wrong.

Aha, it seems to be, the roots of the area light are simulating a window. Thanks.

No not at all, it was just an example. An area light is just a light bigger than a point.
