  • what's the deal with mapping?

    Hi,

I thought I would try some textures today, with the new mapping tools. I read the announcement about having to change smth in the scene for the mapping changes to take effect. But Actually nothing works, I can't control the mapping at all. Is this normal?

    what's the deal with mapping?

    Hi Wouter,
I sent Joe a scene that he was going to look into but I have not heard from him. Here is the tread - http://www.asgvis.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=220
Hopefully these tools will get working soon,

    Glen

      what's the deal with mapping?

In the last anouncement we can read
"- This version of VRay for Rhino (Beta 8 ) supports McNeel's "Render Content Manager" which adds many cool things, but currently we are just using it for its texture mapping support. Because the Brazil WIP uses RCM as well, installing VRay for Rhino will **BREAK** the current WIP of Brazil. Also if you install a Brazil WIP it will **BREAK** Vray for Rhino."

Maybe, if we use the mapping tool, we use the broken mapping tool from Brazil. Or is the mapping tool available without Brazil? For Maxwell I have needed to install Brazil befor.

          what's the deal with mapping?

I'm getting limited results with mapping.
          See here: http://www.asgvis.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=283

I think the rendered viewport is not working correctly. I can change the scale of the map but it doesn't look correct until I render it.

Are you creating a material with a texture as the diffuse? Then assign that material to a surface. Pick the surface and add a map, click planar, and fool around with the settings and the widget.

I have had problems with trimmed surfaces, too. It works more often when you create a surface from scratch, then walk thru the process (as above).

            what's the deal with mapping?

I have done as you said, on a simple box, and it didn't work no matter what I tried

              what's the deal with mapping?

When you create the material and update the preview, do you see the texture on the preview sphere?
If so, try creating a simple rectangular surface and assign that material to it. Do you see the texture on the surface in a rendered viewport?
If so, add a map, click planar, click show mapping, and click equalize. Does it affect the texture on the surface?

I don't know enough to tell you what to do if the answer to any above question is "no." Could it be an RCM issue? Maybe uninstall build 8 and reinstall it.

                what's the deal with mapping?

I haven't had time to work on the RCM stuff this week. We'll have to talk with them to see if I am doing something wrong or if something is wrong with their stuff. I'm sorry for the delay
