  • last minute beta testing - and I have some questions...

I am a regular VRay for Max user, and am playing around with the Rhino version now. I am also fairly well experienced in Rhino, but less so with rendering in it. Thus, after searching around the forums and not finding some answers, I have a few questions to pose...

What is the best way to work with materials? I can get to the VRay settings for materials, but should I be assigning these by object or layer? When I get into the VRay material plug-in settings, I cannot seem to save a name for the material (maybe this is just me missing a basic Rhino setting somewhere).

Lights? Do we have the VRay light that can do a rectangular light and dome light?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Hi Shane,

I think they are recommending that you assign materials by object. My method is to group objects by layer for each material and select objects by layer to change the material.

AFAIK, you can only organize your vray materials externally by importing and exporting them to files. I export materials and import them to apply them to objects.

I'm not sure about a light dome, but for rectangular lights, create one and the vray properties will be available for it. Select the light and pick Light from the pop list in the object properties.

    Hope this helps.
