  • What is better: a big area light or more small ones?

My speculation: I have a interior scene here and I render a view from above like a few in a open doll's house. If I use 12 area light it looks fine. But if I use one big arealight over the whole scene, than the noise is very strong (adaptive QMC 1-100, noise threshold 0.005). Could it be a rule to avoid relativ big arealights?

first rendered with 12 arealight, than started with 1 big arealight

With these settings, several lights will probably produce less noise, since more light rays will be traced at each surface.

What do you recommend for a room with 5 windows at one side - one arealight through the whole wall or one area light per window?
Do you have a easy hint for single big emitters?

A light per window will probably produce better results than a single large light.

What kind of hint do mean for big emitters?

For example I need a hint for a scene like my WIP image here. I could use a big arealight over the whole scene, but it's more noisy than 12 small arealights. Can I do something to get a less noise per single arealight? When should I take many lights instaed one?
