  • Universal Vray settings

    Hi all,

After a few attempts, I have not had any success using the universal settings.
In the rings scene, the caustics on the ring itself are very splotchy.

On a seperate scene it takes 6 hours to do the blank area on the upper corner of the image and then when it hits glass ... it is grainny.

How is Vlado getting it to work ?

    Hello Thomas,

What are your settings in particular and which version of V-Ray for rhino are you using?

    Best regards,
    Vlado
I only act like I know everything, Rogers.

      Vlado,

      I am using beta13.1.

      The settings (Starting from defaults):
      • Image Sampler [minSubD=1, MaxSubD=100]
        QMC Sampler [Adaptive=1.0, NoiseThres=0.01]
        Color Mapping [Uncheck "clamp output"]
        Indirect Illumination [Reflect+Refract, QMC+LC]
        QMC GI [SubD=8, Bounces=3]
Light Cache [SubD=1500, SampleSize=0.001, "Use for glossy rays", InterpSmpls=5

I think Vlado suggests a noise threshold of 0.001 as a good setting, but every scene is different. Beta versions prior to 13.1 had the Noise Threshold default value set at 0.002, currently it defaults at 0.01.

I read somewhere that the thresholds have been re-evaluated and what used to be 0.001 is now 0.01 ? (I could be confused about this though)

In any case. At 0.01 it takes 6 hours for only a small corner... if I let it go it would take a week for the rest ? .... and ... if we set it to 0.001 it will be exponentially longer ?

This can't be rigt, I must be doing somethng incorrectly.

            Thomas,

I think the noise in your image is coming from your small light cache sample size of .001. Maybe try something a bit bigger and see if that helps you.

As for the noise threshold the new default value is .01. This is new as of beta 13.

            Best regards,

            Corey
