  • How to acces the materials settings??!!

    Hi,

I just purchased Vray for Rhino. I'm starting to read the help file in order to get going right away (I'm switching from alias image studio 3).
Turns out I can't even access the shaders so far.

    Here is what I do:

I select an object, look at material property, select plug-in --> it says librairy none, the only option offered is create new. Once created, it shows only a default material.

Yet when the plug-in loads in rhino, the text shows shaders loading!
In the help file or forum tutorials it shows the material editor with VRayMtl, vrlight... I can't access this portion.

Am I retarded or missing something? Is there a librairy file/folder I'm missing?

    Please let me know.

How to acces the materials settings??!!

In the material editor, right click on the "Default Material" (blue sphere), then choose "Import from File." Now browse to the Rhino Plugin folder (should be something like... C:\Program Files\Rhinoceros 3.0\Plug-ins\VRayForRhino) there you will find Vray materials in the "Materials" folder. I hope this helps. Good luck.

How to acces the materials settings??!!

Thanks, this helped. Now I can indeed import shaders.

However it seems wierd to me I have to "import" one by one. Is there a way to load the entire shader librairy so they are available at all time for each new file?

Also looking at the forum, tutorials, it seems that some other user have a different looking dialog box:
      http://www.aversis.be/extra_tutorial...ettings_01.htm).
Is this only for max users?
Even the rhino - help plug-ins- vray shows a different dialog box for shaders.

Thanks for your help, please clarify with detailed info.

The help file is outdated. It will be updated very soon.

The dialog boxes that you see are part of 3dsmax not Rhino.

We can look into multiple selection of vismats when importing a material. Given our Material Editor UI for the 1.0 release things would get a little too crowded too fast if you were to import too many materials.

        Hope this helps.

        Best regards,

How to acces the materials settings??!!

          Thanks for the input.

I'm still surprised that there is not a way to visualize at a glance the overall different shaders. Right I can only view shaders by selecting an object. By the way when i look at an individual shader preview, it often doesn't refresh and sometimes make the software crashes...

Anyways I don't want to complain yet. I'm excited to use Vray and I need to practice more and read the board forum for directions.

          Thanks

it will refresh when you hit the "Update Preview" button. If you can reproduce a way that causes a crash for you please let us know on the bugs forum
