  • Resizing texture maps, how do I do it?

I have been in the object properties mapping area for about 4 hours now and cant seem to get the texture map to change at all.
I have messed with all the settings.
I have it set on planar and have changed the size from .1 to 20 and the map stays the same on the object.
I obviously must be doing something wrong or missing something.
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Resizing texture maps, how do I do it?

I have had the same problem, after banging my head on the desk for a few hours, which didn?t help, I finally e-mailed Corey with my problems and must say got a swift response, but I still cant scale, rotate etc my bmp textures. I model furniture and need wood grains to be in proportion to the cabinet size, I believe that it will be sorted in the next release.
My posting with reply from Corey is a few places below.
If any one knows a way around this please can you let us know how?

Resizing texture maps, how do I do it?

        Hi Guys

I would live to be in the position where I can't re-scale

but for some reason I can't even see any 'bump maps' - I must be doing something fundamentally wrong?

        1. apply default material to and object and change default colour
        2. edit material and select 'maps' bump
        3. in the 'texture editor' select 'common type' eg noise

        and

Nothing - played around with all the texture settings and sill nothing?!

        any pointers? - anyone?

          Hi magnatizerr

Select Bitmap instead of noise and I think you will get it then.

Resizing texture maps, how do I do it?

            Hi tkyte

Do I have to use an imported 'bmp' file to create any 'bump map'?

I must admit I thought I could use a 'common type' eg noise to generate a simple texture - similar to a 'spark texture' on a plastic moulding?

It's the process I've used in both 3dMax and Flamingo.

If I can't use the common 'noise', 'grid' etc for generating bump maps, then any ideas what are they used for?

            Cheers

I think it is in the readme file that accompanies vfr that currently you can't use procedural textures as bump.

                Thanks flipside

Unfortunately I didn't get a read me file - never mind, at least your post stops me going mad!

I'm assuming that it will be included at sometime in the future?

                Cheers

Its not an impossibility, but currently no textures other than Bitmaps can be used as bump maps. We would have to modify the texture plugins that come with the VRaySDK.

There is one workaround though, you could make a plane and apply the desired procedural texture to it. Then render it and save the output as a bitmap file. Then you could use that image as the bump map. I know its a bit more than most would like to do, but its the only workaround available at the moment

But the main reason you would use procedurals as bumps, is that these are 3d textures, eliminating nasty texture seams.

Maybe something for the vfr 2.0

Yeah, we gotta leave something for the next version right? Otherwise 1.0 will never be finished!

Yeah, as long as you don't forget to include the 'get me some beer' button in v1.0 all is ok
