Is there any way to purge the materials from my scene? The file I was using to test beta 13.1 has about 30 copies of 4 materials. I'd like to start fresh.
I tried setting all objects to "by layer" and assigning a basic material to all layers, then cut & paste into a new file, but the scene there still shows all these pesky materials.
    Ideas?

    Yeah, that could be nice.

But, if it is not possible, you could edit a material and rename it to"x ...". Than you assign this material to all objects you like. This could you do with all your materials you need. At the end you get a material library and all materials "x ..." are your needed materials, all other materials you could try to ignore.

Or you export your materials and save your render settings. Than you save your file per command "-SaveSmall" and "saveplugindata=no". After reopen you import your materials and settings and assign it again. Problem could be, that light settings can not exported/imported.
If you do, make a backup copy of your file befor.

      -saveplugindata=no
That's just what I was looking for- thanks.
I agree that a purge function might be useful in the future.

Yeah, I'm very sorry about that, I should have caught that stupid problem much sooner.
