Hi guys, long time no post, but here I go
First of all congratulations with the current state of Vray for Rhino. It's looking better and better. But there is a but:
I've been using the new material system for a while now and to be honest I don't think it is very user friendly:
1) I have to make really descriptive names because there is no overview of materials
2) I don't have a clue what material instancing is supposed to do, or it doesn't work?
3) When I have assigned a map to a certain slot I want to e able to copy /paste it to a new slot and there is no easy way to clear the slot. My suggestion is to right click the small m and being able to select the map right away which displays the map dialog after that and a remove option of course.
4) The way the map slots are displayed now is a bit of a 'bad' copy from max. In max a small m means there is a map but it is inactive. the slot should be clear when there is no map, a small m when there is an inactive map and an M when there is an active map. This gives less clutter.
5) The material workspace shouldn't be neccessary: The same could be done with right clicking in the right field with all the layers:
right click on diffuse: add new diffuse layer option
right click on the first diffuse layer: delete option
OR: a cross to delete (pop up are you sure to delete this layer? yes/no) and a + to make a new layer
option boxes to activate diffuse, emissive, reflective, refractive layers
the left layer tree could then be left away.
6) Material name should be more prominent and a simple box that you don't need to right click to alter the name.
7) A button 'save as copy' would be more convenient IMO than:
create --> import --> copy.
another way could be : browse --> right click--> make a copy
8 ) In case you would preserve the material tree structure : double clicking a layer should open the respective layer, this is what I expected and would be handy.
9) I would like to be abe to make my materials and delete them in a material editor, independant from the objects.

I hope these suggestions don't come to late
