  • double, quad cpu ?

    Hi,
I am looking for future hardware components...
does Vray for Rhino takes advantages of 2 CPU motherboard for the rendering or either 4 CPU motherboards (even if I can't afford it) ?
How the licensing will be applied in this case ?
With Maxwell, 1 physical cpu = 1 licence (so dual core are 1).

    Thank you very much.

    double, quad cpu ?

... I use a AMD3800 x2 and I see two render buckets in the frame buffer. Works fine with one license.

If the machine works in HT mode, should I see four buckets?

Hmmm, if my machine support HT, than I should see four buckets. How can I test that my machine use HT technology?

Some weeks befor I have posted:
Hmm, my machine is a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ and in the BIOS I can see this options

          HT Frequency - AUTO
          Hper Transport Voltage
... but have not get an answer. Could be nice if the could figure it out now. Please. Maybe I could double the speed.

If you have a dual cpu machine, and HT enabled, you should see 4 buckets. But that doesn't mean you will get double speed Windows will treat your dual cpu as 4 cpu's, but that is very different from actually having 4 cpu's.

How many cpu's do you see in the task manager? There should be four. If not, you don't have HT enabled. Not sure if amd's have HT? Isn't it an intel thing?

The speed increase of HT is about 15%.

Wouter, thank you for the infos. I use an AMD and I see two CPUs in the taskmanager. So, the next step for me could be to get infos about HT of my machine and to get four CPUs at the taskmanager.

To my understanding, AMD does not support Hyper Threading. This is Intel technology. AMD believed HT to be a temporary fix and that Dual Core would outdate hyper threading. This is why AMD never used HT with their processors.

Dual core processors like the AMD Athlon 64 with Hyper Transport is a dual core system and from my studies, really blows Intel away.

                  the question still remain...
do we get the whole juice from our cpus of any kind... joeb will tell us on monday I guess.

Yes, Vray uses the two cpu's of a dual system. I don't see why it wouldn't use 4 cpu's of a quad system.

                      perfect ! and it will be 1 system = 1 license or 1 physical cpu = 1 license ?
and still no chance of network rendering for this release right ?

You will get as many buckets are you system can handle. Your license is not per-processor.

Yeah network rendering won't be around for this time through I don't believe.
