  • texture map not tiling

Hey everyone. I have searched and haven't found any discussions about his, so maybe it is just me.

I am unable to tile a texture map. The image stretches to the surface. The U and V scales have no effect and Reparameterization has no effect.

Any ideas what is going on here? I was able to control textures on another model earlier this week no problem.

    Thanks.

(Below is an image showing a surface in the background with the tile, and the texture settings.)

    Garret,
Have you tried using the mapping pull down in the Object Properties Dialogue box? I have better luck using these tools rather than the material properties.

Forgot about that. Well, when I tried to use that pull down, I got funny results. The "rendered view" updated, but the actual rendering was a gray surface.

When I switched back to default, the surface actually obeyed the paramteters setin the material editor.

Ok. I found a go-around. This is what I did. I closed and re-opened Rhino. Then set the viewport to Shaded View, though I guess anything other than Rendered View works.

I used the Mapping pull-down as suggested and it works fine.

        Thanks!

The mapping changes in our material editor don't show in the viewport as these are applied at render time. It is always better to use the RCM mapping tool than the limited support we offer in the texture editor - our stuff is really just for very simple things.

Good to know. I just had a similar problem with a bump map. It wasn't rendering, so I used the RCM mapping tool and it worked. The one issue that remains the same is I have to click custom, then default, then custom to see the effects in the rendering.

                Thanks.

I am considering a clean install of Rhino and V-Ray since I have installed and uninstalled Beta versions since updating Rhino.

One question is will i lose materials or settings in files I have already worked on?

                  Hi garrett_jsaa

I think it should be ok, but it's good practice to save all materials, global settings etc out of the V4R folder just in case!! You can then replace the folders after the re-install - (Thats what I do and I've never had any issues)

The materials bedded within scenes should still be OK - mine always are. (I must admit that whenever I create a new material within a scene I always export a copy out into the master V4R material folder - that way you always have a back up and all your materials are in one place!)

As far as I am aware the uninstallation process will only remove files that the installer had put there - so if you have made changes to the vismats that ship with VfR they will be lost. Other new vismats and visopts should not be damaged - if you do experiance a problem with that please let me know
