  • "Double sided" - is it necessary for glass materia

    Hallo,

in the past it was necessary to disable "double sided" for glass material. Now glass dosn't work if double sided is disabled. I think this is good so.

When is this option necessary? From my experience I would say for fake thin paper (see here) or for translucent SSS effects of volumes.

    Hi Micha,

You are right about that. Double side should be disabled when rendering SSS effects.

... is it needed for other effects too?

As far as I remember, the double sided checkbox has been added only to render SSS. In Max, this option is on by default as well and should be disabled to simulate SSS.

There is another V-Ray material that is good for the thin paper - its the 2Sided material - it is implemented a little bit different than just calling a material doublesided I believe. This material should be available to Rhino in the future.
