  • Light splotches

    Hello,
I'm new to vray and am having issues with light "leaking" around some of my objects.
There are 3 area lights in the scene...one pointed toward a white panel to reflect back through the window. One on the inside of the window pointed into the room, and one in the back of the room pointed towards the window.
I'm using QMC and photon map as my engines. The noise threshold is at .005.

Hope that's enough information! If not let me know and I'll describe more.

Splotches coming through corner of wall and through pipes.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

I'm not sure with your GI engines. I recommend other combinations - LC+QMC or LC+IM. Best you look at the ASGvis user tutorials.

Most light leaks are caused by low IM settings. Also you can avoid this, if you model thick walls. I have the feeling, your walls are thin surfaces only. If you use LC+QMC, you will not see light leaks too. But LC+IM works faster.

or if this is surfaces. JOIN the surfaces. Joining help collapse the holes of the meshes

        thanks

I tried IM+LC and the image turned out better.

Another question now, though. Using those engines, areas that should be very dark are now lighter. You can see in the openings in the pipes where it seems like it should be almost black. (I added black surfaces behind the pipes)

        Thanks

1 Which color value did you use?
2 Do you set secondary GI engine at 0.8?

            Color value (mapping)? Reinhard

I had both engines at 1, I'll go ahead and try .8 for the second.

Sorry, I mean the color value of the grey color.

Reinhard is good to - set burn 0.8. ... and read the tutorials. Best you start with the Tutorial F. It explain anything you need for a start.

Those pipes were pure white...I imagine that's not the best color.

The walls were at a value 0f 249.

I changes the pipes to a silver material and when I did, the mouths then were shadowed instead of lit like when they were white. I think I'll leave them like that, but have noticed with LC (I think) the shadows seem to be a lot less dense in areas that should be denser.

                Thanks for the suggestions, Micha.
