  • question about RCM

Now that the new RCM that ships with Brazil latest wip, supports displacement,is it something we can look forward for the upcoming SR1 ?

Which I can't wait to work with especially the physical camera.Waiting for Rhino 4 official release will delayed it for sure, too bad I was hoping for something verrry soon .

    question about RCM

I'm not sure what exactly we would have to do on our end to hook into that, but since it is a rcm function it should be possible. As for whether or not we could get that for the sr that would be something that Joe could shead some light on.

As it stands right now in order to get the rcm update you'll still have to download the brazil wip (I don't think that you have to go through the brazil liscense thing, but I might be wrong on that). Maybe we should look into including the rcm update into our service release considering how our users would need it, but may not want to go through brazil to get it.

      question about RCM

I just hooked up displacement and overridable environment materials in SketchUp. So those two things, along with physical camera / sun /sky / infinite plane will all definately make their appearance in Rhino. Our displacement doesn't have anything to do with RCM - so I'm not sure what affect that will have.

We'll be releasing more information about our Rhino4 build in the coming week or so, but I think we'll probably have a beta ready to release in the not-too-distant future.

              question about RCM

Joe, yes, let us see a progress. I have a VfR blues and only a SR (beta) can help.

Will be the pack&go feature integrated for sure? I would like to restructure my project at my HDD, but befor I destory the texture paths I would wait for the SR with pack&go. Or could this feature a VfR independent tool? Could be a nice gesture for the Rhino community and could bring the attention of many rhino user to VfR.

                  question about RCM

I'm not sure about a full-on pack & go thing - though it would be extremely useful. But at the very least I do plan to implement a relative pathing system of some sort so everything is not all absolute pathed. Thus if you setup some directory structure for your scene like this...

                  + MyScene
                  ---+MyScene.3dm
                  ---+Maps
                  -------+MyBumpMap.jpg
                  -------+MyEnvironment.hdr
                  ---+Options
                  -------+MyDraft.visopt
                  -------+MyFinal.visopt

you could just archive that directory as-is and wouldn't need to reload anything since it would just look at the directories around your 3dm file for the assets. Or maybe allow users to enter common directories to search for such assets as well.
[edit] It would also have to look around the directory where vismats are loaded to the scene.
                  Best regards,

                    question about RCM

This is fine. So, projects can be moved from one place to an other. Maybe you could add a "collect" button that copy all used textures to the map directory and set the relativ path.

I will wait and restructure my HDD with this feature.

i love it. even if it was just relative to the .vismat it would be great.
