  • How to make a neon bulb??

I need a neon bulb light in one scene.

First I have never figured out how to use light with Vray for Rhino.
    I use Rhino light.

When I set a rectangular light in a glastube I get some weired black stripes on the walls around the lightsource...the ceiling also stays dark even if I use a double light.

is there any way to do a lightbulb?

here is my scene you can see the stripes.

Sometimes objects seem to disapear when I add vray material...although the material preview renders correct.

I hope the material converter for vray materials from MAX will be standalone...exporting from MAX would not help a lot if I don`t use it.
I need to be able to download materials and then convert them :P
Sorry if that sounds hard but why didn`t you think about that at that in the first place...like maxwell materials are universal materials.

now I understand that vray lights are created when you do a Rhino light...but the options are different.

Could it be that the linear lights are not working with vray?
I still dont understand the shaddows I get when I use the rectangular light

I think, linear light is not supported.

Your first mov image looks right. The dark ceiling is right too, because the direct light distributation works like this. Best you enable GI and the ceiling will not be dark anymore.
Also the shadows are right - stretched from the long light source. For better shadow quality use a higher subdiv value at the shadows.

You may just want to make the whole light bulb with an emissive material, that way the shadows will be much more realistic.

          Hi Micha.

I guess I mean another set of shadows...if you pan around in the pano there is a shadow under the ceiling. This shadows are appear perpenticular to the rectangular lightsource when I set it to double sided.
These shadows are gone when I use the Rhino renderer (It doesn`t support double sided lights though).

Also what is the difference if I set the multiplier in GI or set a lower light multiplier? My light is 0.4 now, Irradiance Map 1 and QMC 1.
I seem to get about the same results when I set light to 1 and the others to 0.4
I understand that I can have two different strong lights only by verious light settings...but with one light there is no differnce which multiplier I set?

Then there is still a weired shaddow left under the bikes, like two rectangular shadowy spots? Again something wrong with my settings I guess.

I will try two spotlights on both ends of a emissive "glass" tube now.

Are you using LWF? The reason why I ask is that your shadows are quite dark, and using linear workflow will brighten those, which might be better for some of the shadows on the ceiling. It might be something to try and generally is something that you should adopt.

              Whats LWF?

Linear workflow is the process in which you adjust your renderings for being displayed on your monitor. Basically you monitor doesn't respond to colors in the correct fashion. It actually causes midtones to be displayed darker than they really are. The result is things like shadows look darker than they are supposed to be. Most everything (images and whatnot) are already corrected for this, but vray doesn't. Here is the link to a tutorial on how to change it http://www.asgvis.com/index.php?opti...d=24&Itemid=55. If you press the little sRGB button at the bottom of the frame buffer you can see the result. There are also several topics on the forum as well. Check them out and see if it helps.

                  Thanks...I will read up.
But it doesn`t save the file as it is shown when I push the button...
This was altert in Photoshop afterwards...(actually I didn*t like the blue light that I first rendered in...)

... and if you like to get black materials than use not color value 0 but 5 ... 20. Also some fresnel reflections are good (see material tutorial).

Thank you so very much for the kind help...
It is not so hard when you get it going finally. ;D

                      This is a 3200*1600 rendering...1h2min
                      http://85.124.199.50/raum.mov

                      second is 6400*3200 ...4h4min
                      http://85.124.199.50/radraumx.mov
slightly odd angle (camera is ca. 210m up) but you can zoom in nice at the kicker.
The wood bumpmap is bad...I just used color and a bad bumpmap on that beam.
Here I did set the balck from the paint to 16 and added fresnel. I dont see the diff. but did it anyways..how is it supposed to look different?

Any recomendations on how to speed up the rendering or enhance it in another way?

I would invite you all to play on that thing this weekend...we did the painting today and have to do more tomorrow because we ran out of cans and it is too dark now to continue working.
The field is wood inlay. The legs are L-profile steel. The goals are bend niro, polished steel panels...
