  • Store with IM - how to control the quality?

New test: I render my velociraptor scene in classical mode: adaptive amount 0.85 1-4 + IM -3/0 90 20 0.3 0.1 0.1. My lights are set to "save with IM".
So, now we should control the quality with IM settings only or? Wouter wrote at his tutorials:
So by setting the Vraylight to 'store with IR map', the result will be that there is no direct light anymore, only GI light. This means that all shadows will also be created by the GI light. The consequence of this is, that shadow quality doesn't depend on the Vraylight subdivs anymore, but the it is controlled by the GI settings, namely the irradiance map (and QMC GI for secondary bounces). This is important, the Vraylight subdivs do absolutely nothing if 'store with IR map' is checked!
But, my test show me, the subdivs of the lights are the main factor for the quality anymore.

    subdivs 6 for lights

    subdivs 16 for lights

Perhaps there is a difference in the implementation of the Rectangle Light between the standalone plugins and V-Ray for Max. I can check the code to see if anything becomes immediately apparent to me, but I'm sure Vlado would know more than I.
