  • Hardware to Vary for rhino

    Good night for all!
    My problem is:
    My PC:
    INTEL D945 1066/800MHZ
    DDR II PC533 1GB KINGSTON (X2)= 2GB
    HARD SATA II 160 GB
    INTEL CORE 2 DUO E6400 2.13 GHZ 2MB L2
    SVGA 512 NB GFORCE 7600GS PCI-EX

Well... to get more fast renders, im going to buy (UPGRADE):
    QUAD CORE 2.40 GHZ Q6600 EM64T
    INTEL D965GFEKR CORE 2 DUO 1066/800 MHZ

    So..my questions are:
1-Vray for rhino works whit QUAD core? (and the others config)?
2-It makes diference if i upgrade to 4GB RAM too? Or 2GB?
3-If my delay time render was 30 min., whit that upgrade my delay time render is probaly 5, 10 min.???

Thank you all very much for help, please.
    Hug.

    1. Vray will use as many cores as you throw at it...Some vfmax users are using dual quad rigs

    2. As far as memory goes, more will allow vray to handle more complicated scenes with out crashing. This definitely is needed if you use allot of displacement. It depends on the type of work you do whether or not you need that kind of head room. I'd say go with 2gb and if you feel you need more than you can always add it later.

    3. Well not really. Depending on alot of things (memory, fsb, and others) you probably won't be able to expect things that quick, but I would say a 30 min render would be done in right around 15 give or take a minute or two.

If like to use so much RAM as possible, you must use a 64bit system. All 32 bit system are limited with ~1.6-1.8 GB per task. XP64 allow 3.2 GB RAM per 32bit task. Programs based on 64bit can use "unlimited" RAM.
I prefer XP64, because it is simple and stable.

RAM is needed for high poly counts. I can render large images with 2.000.000 polygons. This is the limit at my current project with a complex model. If I need more, than I use some tricks. Some times, if the polycount is high, but the geometry simple, than I can render ~8.000.000 polygons.
Also high res textures need more RAM.
