    hello,
    Again I am a bigginner in VRAY, how do I get rid of the black from the back ground on the top of this ring without it turning grey..

    instead of changing color, insert some background image. you can do that by clicking on m button for the background, and then chose bitmap. change it from texture to enviroment, and choose image you want to reflect.

    or, other way is to insert map in reflection of material, if you use vfr 4.

      i would soften your reflections as well. gold doesnt have a mirror finish to it. reduce the reflection glossiness and highlight glossiness just a little .85 to .9 and increase the subdivisions from 8 to 16. You could also use a dual reflection layer setup for even smoother looking gold reflections. Micha's material creation tutorial is full of lots of goodies that will help you.
