  • glass?

i have a piece of hollow pipe with glass material and a chrome cylinder stuck thru it. How come the cylinder gets rendered black thru the glass? When the cylinder is white or coloured...it works fine

If i make the refraction transparency of the glass light grey it seems to work but takes forever to render??

    Is that the way?

    Re: glass?

My initial impression would be that you don't have enough reflections to render it properly. Basically you've got a glass tube and a chrome tube, and that means that there allot of reflections/refractions back and forth between those two materials. By default the max depth is set to only 5 which means that the reflections/refractions will only be calculated back and forth for 5 times, which in this case is not enough. Try setting it to 15 or 25 and see if that helps. That setting is in the top left corner of the Global Switches rollout
