  • Good render, but long time render :/

Hi guys, i must find a good rapport between quality/time render.

    I use this impostation:

GI Reflect Caustic: OFF , Refract Caustic: ON
    Primary Engine: Irradiance Map M:1
    Second Engine: Light Cache M:1

    IRRADIANCE MAP
    min -4 max 0
    samples 20
    hsph 66
    yes show calculation phase
    no multipass
    yes randomize samples
    yes check visibility

    LIGHT CACHE
    Sub 1000
    Sample 0.02
    Adaptive YES
    Use for glossy NO
Filter Nearest -> Interp Samp 5

    QMC SAMPLER
    Ad A 1
    Min Samp 8
    Noise 0.001
    Subv Mult 1
    Randomize Halton

    In Enviroment i use
GI , bitmap HDR shperical MULTI: 1
REFLECTION , bitmap HDR shperical (the same) MULTI: 1

I like render but time is too long [FOR ME...and there is not the water...]
If i set the noise to 0.01 the noise is toooo much but render more faster (not too much..)

Please help me, i have an exam

    Hello Donk,

maybe you want to read this tutorial:

    Good luck for your exam!

      Hi, thanks for tutorial

I read it, but i read also other tutorial....

in this case...i need only small correction of my setting to get faster render and remain in quality ^^

      anyway...tk

hmm... A few things I noticed.

        1. It looks as though you are using the same HDR for GI as you are for your reflections. This actually can cause more noise by having a sharp hdr. If you blur the hdr that you use for GI then the result will actually be smoother, meaning that you could probably lower a few of those settings.

        2. Are you using Gamma Correction?...sometimes ungamma corrected images can have higher levels of contrast between certain areas. This means that things like IR and image sampling can actually take longer. Its not a hard fast rule, but something I've noticed in some of my experiments. And Gamma Correction just looks better.

        3. that Noise threshold value is very low. Anything in the QMC sampler affects almost every aspect of the rendering, so having that value that low is probably making some things go slower than they need to be. I think the nonBlurred hdr may have something to do with why your feel you need the noise threshold that low.

        4. Post your Image Sampling (AA) settings. That can make a 10 min image take 10 hours if its the wrong setting

        5. Little odds and ends here and there... I never use adaptive for LC. It doesn't really work too well and it takes longer...I always have use for Glossy Reflections on. It does help, and with good LC settings there is no noticable difference in quality...

All that being said, here's the settings that I would use for that image

        IR
        -4,-2 hsubd= 40, samples 20
        Detail Enhancement enabled
        Scale-Screen, Radius-40, SubD Mult- .2

        LC
        SubD-1000, Sample size-.01 (or .005)
        Use For Glossies enabled

        Sampler
        Adaptive- .95, Noise-.005

        Image Sampler
Adaptive SubD- 0,3 Area Filter 1.15

Everything else would be pretty standard. Oh and reflection Max Depth at 2 or 3 and Gamma Corrected (Correct RGB and LDR enabled, Output 2.2, Input 2.6). Make sure your using a blurred HDR for your GI. I've had images of this size/quality take about 35-40 min on my machine and its not super fast. Hopefully these setting should get you down to about an hour.

I'm trying a mix between my settings and yours...and it's sounds good!!! Few minutes ani will d post the render (there is still something to correct...but it's good and fast!)

                  A question: what is this?

This is the last render. It's fast but all hdr reflection are hide? Why? For the new hdr...o for other settings?

I put the old HDR. I must correct until something...but i'm happy with this settings
There is until few noise to hide...

Re: Good render, but long time render :/

If you want to blur your HDRIs, you could use the free tool HDRShop v1:

                        http://www.hdrshop.com/

                        It's simple, small and easy.

You must use the blur version for GI and the original for background or reflection env.

Set output gamma 2.2 and enable the correct .. options.

Best you use secondary GI multiplier 0.8 allways, so you can be sure, that you get not to much indirect light bounces.

Anyway, i'm happy that finally i've found a good settings for my render

As Micha said, only use the blurred HDR for the GI not for background/reflections...thats the key. If you want you can add an extra prepass to the IR calc (-4,-1). That may help bring back a bit more detail because the IM solution won't rely as highly on the reconstruction. I usually don't go much more detailed than -1 anyway, especially with Detail Enhancement.

Since the IM pass is very fast allways, I stick at max rate -1 and use 0 for scenes with small details (if I decide not to use DE).
