  • some questions again:)

    just wanted to know:

    1:Say you have 2 spheres. 1 is chrome and the other is glossy red. They are both sitting on a white reflective floor next to each other. There is also a HDRI in the background slot for reflections. Is it possible to get the chrome ball to reflect everything except the red ball? IF so, how?

    2: Is it possible to specify shadow colour under a light setting or material setting. It would be nice to control shadow colours

    3:Under image sampler....what should be the standard max subdivs? By default its on 16 ( its that hi settings or low?

    4: Under QMC Sampler whats better, using -0.85 adaptive amount and 0.01 noise or stick with 1 adaptive and lower the noise? Whats the diff? IS it the lower the min samples the better?

    Thanks guys, you are very helpfull

    Re: some questions again

    -> 1. I would render the scene or parts of it two times.

    -> 2. no

    -> 3. http://www.asgvis.com/index.php?opti...90&topic=438.0

    I use two main method:
    * Vlados universal (works well with QMC+LC and most well with IM+LC [adaptive amount 0.95 + 99 IM subdivs helps against problems some times])

    * classical setup with adaptive amount 0.85 and noise 0.01 (good quality) and material subdivs and QMC sampler 1/4

    Universal method with max subdiv 16? I would say, 16 is the max used subdiv, so it's a upper speed/quality limit. You could use 100 too, but than it would render longer at difficult parts of the image (than the quality is better too). So, if you set it 100, it must not be slower than 16, only if Vray must use more subdivs to rich the noiselevel.

      Re: some questions again

      Max Subdivisions on AQMC is 100. Very good results...Very long time. I think between 24-36 works well for finals, unless I've got a lot of time to burn.

      The adaptive amount helps a bit, although the noise threshold is really what is going to drive the overall quality of the image. The minimum samples setting is the required number of samples for every value that requires sampling. So v-ray must take that number of samples before it even checks whether that value is below the specified noise level. Lower values for min samples will make the sampling "less reliable", but the only way a value stops being sampled is the noise threshold anyway, so I tend to say lower values are okay.

      I also typically set adaptive amount at .95. IM doesn't like an adaptive amount of 1 too much so .95 works pretty well for me.
