  • render frame

    Hi Guys,

Is there a render window by any chance,

Sometimes i want to overide the viewport resolution, but then its hard to get the product in the middle and it seems to be a bit of gues work where your product end up in relation to the pixels

I know 3d max has a render frame/view, which is kinda like the page border in illustrator or indesign. Its just a frame on the viewport which shows you what you are about to render (basically the same as when you print rhino 4 and use draw window)

    Cheers

    Re: render frame

The command "renderwindow" will let you pick just a part of the window to render.

But, I think you're talking about framing your render. What I find is best is set the viewport to the same aspect ratio as your final render. If you want a 2400x1200, for instance, you can set the viewport to 600x300 (or 800x400, etc.) Then it will match up better.
To do this, you can enter the viewport size in the options pane (with nothing selected, it should tell you all the viewport settings). You can also type "-viewportoptions" to get a command line version of the command, pick "s" for size and enter the height and width there.

Correction- the command line maybe "-viewportsettings". I forget. Start typing and you should see it.

    Hope that helps,
    Craig

      Re: render frame

in rhino 4 you can enable Safe Frame. Perhaps that is what you're looking for?

        Re: render frame

Keep in mind that SafeFrames will reference the resolution settings for Rhino Render. If v-ray isn't overriding the resolution that won't be an issue, but if it is you will need to set it there to get the right frames.

Personally I set it to something that is the same aspect ratio as the image, but not the same size... i.e. 4x3 for any renders with an aspect ration of 1.333 and 16x10 for any with 1.6 and so on an so forth. Just my suggestion

          Re: render frame

Damien, how hard would it be for you guys to implement the auto conversion when the image size button are clicked. Can you pass the same render size information back to rhino so that safe frames update? This way no matter where the resolution is set, the safe frame gets set as well?

            Re: render frame

Well I'm sure Joe could take care of it pretty easy...but also if things were scriptable that would be easily taken care of as well.

              Re: render frame

That would be a nice idea, that way there is no confusion as to "did i set it in rhino or did i set it in vray? what's the dang current render size!" One button shall rule them all!
