  • decals on carpaint

I use carpaint , so the color is in the filter. I'm unable to place a visible decal on that material. I tried to mask in diffuse...
    Someone can help me?
    Thanks

    Re: decals on carpaint

Oh, thats not easy. I hope we get the freedom, to free arrange the material layer soon.

    Material
    first layer: fresnel reflection
second layer: reflection + no fresnel + glossieness 0.7 + filter color=metalic effect color
third layer: diffuse color of the decal letters or decal texture
fourth layer: diffuse color part of the car paint

What you need is a transparency map at the second and third layer in the reflection color slot. The problem is, that now the transparency map at the second layer control the intensity of the metallic effect too. I found a good look after some adjustment only. The problem was, that the car paint behind the decal dosn't match with the car paint at the rest of the car.

If you look at my gallery, you see a red Mini Cooper, there I used the attached material. You can use it as base for your experiments.

    Good luck.

PS: In the future you will set a diifuse layer with the decal as top layer of the material.

Maybe Damien can tell us, when an update can be expected.

I don't want to throw any dates around, but we are shooting for early fall. I'm not exactly sure what is planned for that update (we've been talking about allot of things) so I'll ask Joe if reordering the material layers is a possibility for that. Maybe we'll try to put a little something together that explains how to get around this. As you said Micha, it can be done, but its a hassle.

Has anything happened with this or is there a better work around?

                Re: decals on carpaint

So far I understand, the new VfSU support free moveable material layer, so it should be possible to move a diffuse layer between metal reflection and coat reflection or on the top. But I'm not sure, i don't use SU.

Oh right. No worries. I'll wait until there is a suitable solution for VFR. The current work around that you suggested is does work for me.

                  Cheers,

Yes, this is possible with the new layer system in SU. I hope we get a new version of Rhino with those features, before the version 2 of V-ray for Rhino.

Since VfSU get an update, it would be fair if the VfR user wouldn't be complete forgotten. Is it a question that VfR get the update? A bugfree v1 should be the first goal!
