  • Help in getting rid of noise

    Hi
I m running into an issue
I have rendered and rerendered so many times to get rid of any noise effects I see
I use for an interior scene IR map ( 1) and Light cache ( .85)
    Noise is set at .001
    Adaptive amount at .85
but I still get some noise effect on my leather
Is it because of the material ( I don t have any bump map nor grainy effect on the material ) I would expect something clean
here is an example of what I m saying

Re: Help in getting rid of noise

Three suggestions: use Adaptive QMC 1/16 or/and use more material subdivs like 60 or 80 (and noise 0.005 should be good enough) or jump to the universal setup (Ad QMC 1/100), but with adaptive amount 0.95 (it's the max value for good IM results, 1 cause problems).

Re: Help in getting rid of noise

I'm going to suggest a little change in workflow that will help the noise and not affect the IR solution. IMHO you don't need that low of a noise threshold, and this will help get rid of it.

Step 1: render out IR pass
        Adaptive Amount: .85 Noise:.01
Regular IR settings, whatever you normally use
Set up auto save or save once its done
Don't Render Final Image (also if your using LC, disable secondary bouces as this will get done a the slower settings)

Render the IR map, save it, load it up an proceed to step 2

Step 2: The rest of the rendering
        Adaptive amount: 1 Noise:.01
        Adaptive QMC: 1/100
        Load your saved IR map
Enable LC for secondaries, and disable Don't Render final image

It may be an extra step, but it will get the IR map done more reliably and the rest of everything will be done much quicker. The Adaptive QMC settings are basically going to be what will smooth out your noise. Try .01 on a small test and see if that works for you, and if you feel that you need it smoother then try .005
