  • Fresnel numbers

    A bit theoretical, but...
In your experience, does a material's fresnel number change with diffuse color?
For instance, should white car paint be the same as black car paint (with a different diffuse) or should it have a different fresnel reflection number?
I have a color car from a paint manufacturer and I'm wondering if I can just change the diffuse and save as a new material, or if I should be adjusting the fresnel too.

    Thanks,
    Craig

    Re: Fresnel numbers

Well, technically, I don't think it should. But if you've gotten specific guide lines about the reflection of a material I would try to stick to those. In the end its a matter of how good it looks. If it looks good at the original IOR level then leave it. If its too flat or too strong, then adjust accordingly. I think that simply changing your color would at least be a good start.
