  • getting sunlight into an aircraft cabin

    Hey guys

    Another question
I have tried many renderings but haven t been succesful yet. But I m pretty sure you can guide meand I really appreciate your help.
I use the physical camera with a physical sun. I also use 2 rectangular lights flooding the cabin on either sides. these lights are set to 1 and 4 multiplier respectively and are set to invisible.
I also use the sky settings for GI lighting and environment but I unchecked disable sun<s parameter in both cases.
I want the sun to shine through the cabin but it doesn t work so far
Is there a multiplier i.e. Do I need to increase the sun<s multiplier to get the sun rays shine inside the aircraft cabin? If so isn t it going to increase rendering time.
I set my sun multiplier to 12 and it sisn t work. Or perhaps I need to disable GI lighting in the global switch settings. But I always thought that GI lighting are good for interior settings.
    i m totally confused .........

    Thanks for your help

Do you use glass in the windows? If yes, do you set "affect shadow" at the refraction layer? Could be a glass/shadow/caustic problem - try "affect shadow". Also maybe you could try to render without glass in the windows.

The rect lights are not in front of the windows?

Be careful, invisible lights send light to the scene, but are not visible at reflections and glossy material could look like simple diffuse.

You could disable all interior lights and look what light come from outside. So you could test the sky effect.

You could also set those lights to light portal mode, which will have the rec light take all its properties from the amount of light behind it. That might get your sun to show up. Also, make sure your sun is pointing in a direction that you can see it in the cabin. Sometimes you can look at the direct light icon and it looks like its pointing one way, but actually pointing another.

        Thanks guys
I ll let you know what the results are
It s a matter of trial and error but I have made so many tests so far.
Still the rederings look better than before

        thanks to you

        Cheers
